Neighbourhoods approach us with genuine worries about threats of new mosques. We help them use the laws that exist to protect them in the face of authorities that don’t care.

And we win.

Here’s how we’re doing so far:

47. WIN – Application to demolish existing building, and to put up a four-floor mosque and (as usual) “community centre, at 10-14, Mulberry Way, South Woodford, E18 1ED. Applicants didn’t wait for Council decision, but went straight to appeal. We persuaded the Planning Inspectorate to dismiss the Appeal on 21 February 2017.

46. LOSS – Application to change former pub into Islamic Education Centre and Mosque, at 45 Railway Road, Darwen, BB3 2RJ, granted 16 February 2017 – Application No: 10/16/1124.

45. WIN – Application by the Deen Islamic Centre for a “Cultural Centre” (what’s that?) at 25 Deane Church Lane, Bolton, BL3 4ED. Refused on 28 August 2016.

44. LOSS – Application for a (what else?) “Community Centre” at 2&3 Mount Pleasant Business Centre, Jackson Street, Oldham, OL4 1HU. Planning permission granted on 22 August 2016.

43. WIN – Application to turn Unit 6, Queen Marys Road, Foleshill, Coventry, CV6 5LR, into (one more) “Community and Education Centre“. Application withdrawn on 06 May 2016.

42. WIN – Application for (yet another) “Community Centre” at 1041-1043, High Road, Chadwell Heath, Romford, Essex. Application refused on 05 April 2016.

41. LOSS – Application for (once again) a “community centre” at 127 Bevercotes Road, Sheffield, S5 6HB. Application granted on 24 Feb 2016.

40. LOSS – Application to turn The Happy Wanderer Pub, at Arnison Avenue, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, HP13 6DD into (yet more) “community facilities“. Application granted on 18 February 2016.

39. WIN – Application for a “place of Worship” at 94 – 94A Dedworth Road, Windsor. 55 objection letters and 1,700 signature petition. Application withdrawn on 02 February 2016.

38. LOSS – Application to use premises as (you guessed it) “Community Centre and a Place of Worship” at 20 Devonshire Road, Bolton, BL1 4PG. Planning permission granted on 25 Jan 2016.

37. LOSS – Application to turn the Greyhound Pub, Village Street, Derby, DE23 8DE, into a “place of worship and religious instruction“. Planning permission granted on 21 Jan 2016.

36. LOSS – Application to use 175A Brigstock Road, Thornton Heath, Croydon, CR7 7JP as “a place of worship“. Permission granted on 18 December 2015.

35. WIN – Retrospective application (i.e. they’d already started doing it without planning permission) “for use of existing building as Mosque and Madrassah” at Masjid Quba, 147-149 Fentham Road, Aston, Birmingham, B6 6LX. Application withdrawn November 2015.

34. WIN – Application for “Cultural and Political Meeting” at 26 Crossway, Raynes Park, London, SW20 9JA. Withdrawn on 04 November 2015.

33. WIN – Application for “place of worship, conference and non-residential education institution” at 7-8 Adderley Road, Washwood Heath, Birmingham, B8 1AW. Withdrawn in October 2015.

32. LOSS – Application for “extension of premises to provide new mosque/madrassah facilities” at 94-98 Walford Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham, B11 1QA. Planning permission granted on 05 October 2015.

31. LOSS – Application to turn the Fiveways Pub at Edwards Lane, Nottingham, NG5 3HU into a “community centre” (not another one). Planning permission granted on 24 September 2015.

30. WIN – Application for “community educational, meeting and prayer facility” (blahdy, blahdy) at Office Row, Front Street, Shotton Colliery, Durham, DH6 2NA. 140 objection letters. Application withdrawn on 20 August 2015.

29. LOSS – Application to turn the Endwood Pub, at Hamstead Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, B20 2RA into a “community & educational centre” (always a community centre). Permission granted on 07 August 2015.

28. WIN – Application for an “Islamic Culture and Education Community Centre” (yet again) at 1 Bentham Avenue, Sheerwater, Woking, Surrey, GU21 5LF. Refused on 22 July 2015.

27. WIN – Application to turn The Portmanor Public House into a “mosque and (yet another) community centre”, at Portland Road, London, SE25 4UF. Application withdrawn on 16 Jun 2015.

26. WIN – Application to upgrade “a faith based education facility” to a mosque (one thing leads to another), at 68 Nansen Road Sparkhill Birmingham B11 4DT. Withdrawn in June 2015.

25. WIN – Application to put up a “three storey building comprising of a place of worship/community centre” (yet again) at 10-14, Mulberry Way, South Woodford, E18 1EB – Refused by the Council 0n 20 December 2013, and then refused at Appeal on 12 May 2015.

23. WIN – Application to extend and change the building to a new prayer hall and (surprise, surprise) “community centre” at 227 Halesowen Road, Cradley Heath, B64 6JE. Refused on 18 February 2015.

22. LOSS – Application for a “community centre” (yet again) at 108 Red Lane, Coventry, CV6 5EQ. Planning permission granted on 9 February 2015.

21. LOSS – Application for change of use to  “community centre” (read ‘mosque’) at 1327 Stratford Road, Hall Green, Birmingham B28 9HH. Temporary planning permission granted on 8 January 2015

20. WIN – Application to “Build a community centre” (bingo!) at Mow Beck House, Mowbeck Way, Grantham, NG31 7AH. Application No: S13/2887.  Refused on 3 October 2014.

19. WIN – Application for (you guessed it) a “community centre” at 114-116, Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green, IG8 7HY. Council refused it on 30 December 2014, and refused again at Appeal on 24 July 2015.

18. LOSS – Leeds mosque – 12/03250/FU – Application to turn a pub into an Islamic ‘community centre’ – Application granted.

17. WIN – Cricklewood Mosque – Ground Floor, 78 Cricklewood Broadway, London NW2 3EP – application to turn high street shopping premises (“a Library”) into a “Community Centre” – application refused, and Warning of Enforcement Action to be Taken  24-12-2012.

16. WIN – Brent Mosque – 7 Carlisle Road, NW9 0HD – application for a 8,400 sq ft “Community and Education Centre” (ahem) – Application refused.

15. WIN – Chingford Mosque. 90-92 Chingford Mount Road, Chingford, E4 9AA – application for change of use to mosque, and extension – Application refused.

14. LOSS – Sunderland Mosque. Saint Marks Road North Sunderland SR4 7DA – application for 15,000 square foot mosque – Application granted.

13. WIN – Surbiton Mosque. Argent House, Hook Rise South, Surbiton, KT6 7LD – application for 12,500 square foot mosque – refused.

12. WIN – Purley Mosque. 5 Russell Hill Place, Purley, CR8 2LH – application for new 8,350 square foot mosque. Application refused.

11. WIN – 12 East Avenue, Walthamstow E17 9NG – application for mosque extension from 5,300 sq ft to over 9,500 sq ft. Application withdrawn.
